The first five images above relate to my grandfather and his service in the First World War.  I don’t have a photograph of him at that time, but this one shows him holding me as a baby!  The next photograph is of him with my mother, Esme, and her sister, Yvonne.  He sent this Christmas card from France where he saw action at all the famous battlefields, including Passchendaele.  The embroidery is still beautiful, even after a hundred years.  Lastly there are his calling up papers.  He was a postman in Derbyshire before he joined the forces.

The final images are from the time when the History Makers students came to interview me at the BBC in Birmingham about my grandfather.
