My grandmother passed on to me a tin full of all sorts of bits and bobs. Among them were these items relating to the First World War. The medals and probably the buttons and cap badge belonged to William Thomas Whittall.

He was born in 1887 in Forden and died in 1922 aged 34.

At this time I still don’t know exactly what relative he is to me, but I’m guessing he is a distant great-uncle.

The photo of the ship and the book are from my mother’s side of the family but who they belonged to isn’t clear. I’ve always wanted to find out more about the family history, so I’m hanging on to these things because they link me to my family and of course, they will be useful for research.
