My family has lived in this area for 250 years and I am the fifth generation to live in the house where I live now. Consequently I inherited a lot of items that were left over as my predecessors moved out. So I’ve built up quite a collection of stuff, including things relating to World War I. The selection of photographs show:

  • Group including my grandfather
  • Grandfather’s studio portrait
  • His football team
  • Compulsory purchase order of a horse at Longden
  • Group photo including my grandfather
  • German coin depicting the sinking of the Lusitania (2 views)
  • My great-uncle in the trenches
  • Certificate, Christmas 1916 for school children of the British Empire
  • Death coin or Widow’s Penny
  • Icon from Russian Orthodox church in Palestine
  • Service medals
  • Group photo including my grandfather
  • Group photo of the band including my grandfather with his piccolo
  • Troops drilling at Longden Manor
  • Officers’ quarters at Plealey
  • Training camp at Pontesbury
  • Death coin or Widow’s penny
