My great grandfather was Arthur Trout. He was a stoker in the navy during World War I. I have a copy of his service record, but unfortunately you can barely read it. Also there are photographs of him and his shipmates – the ‘Birmingham Boys’, plus a brass plaque inscribed ‘A. TROUT’ which we think could have come from a trunk. He died in 1922.

My great grandmother’s brother was John Ellis, a gunner in World War I. I have several photographs of him in uniform, and with a fine moustache! Also a picture of him in old age. Both these men received service medals.
